I am NOT a good student
So this school thing is already kicking my ass.
I only have class (anatomy and physiology) once a week (its an overview class, no lab) on monday nights. We go over two chapters a week, have homework every week and a test over the material we've covered the monday following. So this week I knew I needed to read the chapters and do the homework... and I put it off, and put it off and put it off... until Sunday when I realized I had no where else to put it off to, and I'd have to get it done.
But first I walked the race for the cure with April and her mom and neice and auntie and it was FUN! I did do my homework when I got home, and it was a LOT longer and more in depth than I was expecting so I'm glad I didn't wait until the evening to get to work on it... I am SUCH a bad student!!!
I was also supposed to do 8 miles yesterday... and after homework was done I put on the shoes, and got ready to go and promptly turned my left ankle over so badly that I dropped to the floor and screamed bloody murder. It wasn't as bad as I made it out to be... I could put weight on it... but there was no way in hell I could have run on it yesterday... and I don't think I should today... so there goes one long run down the tubes. I'll do my weights today and see how I feel tomorrow for running.
Sometimes I feel like this half-marathon thing is slipping thru my fingers... that I just don't have the time/energy/whatever to really do it and train correctly so I don't really hurt myself. UGH.
I need to work on being a better student and a better athlete... I wonder if those two things are compatable.

I understand what you mean. My own half-marathon in October may fall by the wayside if I don't get my butt in gear! So many workouts, so little time....

The trick to being a good student is starting your homework early. Even if you don't finish it early, just try to do a little every night. I find when break mine up, I tend to get a lot more done. Good luck!

This is likely just me going all Professor-y on you...but A&P is *really* one of those classes you're going to want to get ahead in. A lot.

I have a fortune cookie paper on my fridge that says, "You cannot ride in all directions at once." It is something I need to see on a regular basis, because that's exactly what I try to do. You know, you only have so much time and energy in your bank every day to spend as you wish. But when it's up, it's up. You may need to pare down just a tiny bit, or you may just need to get used to doing even more than you already do. That's only for you to decide.
I work full time and take three classes a semester. I take a semester off (or the summer off) if I plan on racing or competing in anything. It's not just the time involved in getting everything done, but your body also needs RECOVERY time if you're going to train for a race. You may simply not have enough juice to get through everything your're trying to do as well as you'd like to. In my case, I just get too tired to do it all. You may just need to focus things a little differently now that you're using a lot of brainpower ( = energy) on classes. It DOES take a lot out of you. I'm 30, and I work out at 6 am, work a full 8 hour day with classes in between, then do homework at night. My brain literally shuts down at 8:30 or 9:00 and will do no more. I don't know how I'd do it with a family to take care of and a race to train for. I don't know, but you might be spreading yourself too thin.

So how much ya selling that Stumpjumper for? :) LOL, I probably can't afford it anyway. I'm actually looking at a Specialized Rockhopper; that's more my price range. I have to get out and test ride some bikes. See, now, I feel safer on the trails than on the road, complete opposite of you. Anyway....
Are you still working full-time too? AND going to school? That's a lot to have on your plate at once. I'm sure once you get into the groove of it, though, you'll be okay. It just takes some adjustment time, is all. I know you can do it.

If you can do 6 miles, you can do a half marathon! 5-15 miles is all the same determination - which you have in spades. :)
